My work largely expresses emotion through the human form. Hands are equally expressive of emotion as the face, and in this painting I wanted to create a portrait of emotion by focusing only on hands. These hands are both upholding and steadying an empty bowl with firmness and control, yet at the same time finding it an awkward task. The bowl references a domestic sphere where duties are assigned by gender. I question the female desire to hold on to these tasks and take pride in them in spite of the triumphs of the feminist movement allowing us to share these tasks with our male counterparts, and not be trapped by them.
